If you and your boo love snuggling by the fire with a hot chocolate after a long day of skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing – then a winter elopement is probably your jam. If you’ve considered having a winter wedding, let me be one of the first to say GO FOR IT! I’m a hotblooded person and will take the heat over below freezing temps any day, but a winter wedding has a certain magical, peaceful quality to it.

Most couples feel like they need to plan a big, traditional wedding during the height of wedding “season”. But that can often lead to a bigger, more elaborate, stressful day.

When you go against the grain and plan a winter wedding in Canada (during the “off” season), you can plan your day with a lot more simplicity and have a lot of fun in the process.

Jacquie + Owen eloped a couple of years ago, and had a snowy winter vow renewal in Jacquie’s hometown of Prince Edward County, Ontario. We snapped some pics of them in the cutest Airbnb before heading outside for some sunny, snowy bridal photos.

Even if you don’t live in Canada, that doesn’t mean you can’t plan your to have your wedding here!

Most people don’t realize that you can plan a destination wedding for the same price as a traditional wedding – and sometimes even less.

You can easily afford a destination for your wedding or elopement if you plan ahead. By opting to book something in the off season, you can save money and still have a great time! Flights, accommodation and activities are typically cheaper, and you can put the money you save towards other things.

Traveling in Canada can be pricey during peak season, but you can get amazing deals by booking a winter trip.

In the winter, the best times to book travel to and within Canada are:

• early December, or
• mid January to mid February.

Prince Edward County is in between Toronto and Ottawa. You can fly into either city and rent a car for an easy, scenic 2 hour drive to Prince Edward.

Known to locals as “PEC” or “the county”, it’s beautiful year round. There are vineyards, beaches, and incredible sand dunes. It’s also home to Sandbanks Provincial Park, and there are tons of great Airbnbs and places to eat and explore.

The great thing about planning a winter wedding in Canada is that there are no shortage of amazing places to go.
