When you’re planning your wedding, it’s always fun to do engagement photos beforehand. Instead of choosing an outfit or location first, it’s important to start with the direction for your shoot. Think activities, adventures, and things you would want to do while on a date or vacation together. Need some engagement photo ideas that don’t feel like they were plucked from a top 10 list? Use this post to paint a picture of what’s possible!
Rather than just choose something because it looks cool, I like to help my couples plan their photoshoot around something meaningful to them. Especially if you feel a bit awkward in front of the camera, one of the first things I’ll tell you is to have fun and plan an activity! Whether it’s hitting up your favourite record store to browse with coffee in hand, or traveling to the beach to go surfing and swimming, I want to make sure that we’re capturing you in your element and where you feel most at ease together.
Wondering what to do for a fun engagement photoshoot? Depending on where you live, this can include a stroll around the neighbourhood you live in, going to your favourite bar downtown, or dressing up to grab coffee in a spot you find beautiful.
If water calms you or you enjoy spending time together at a family cottage, then this is a great spot to do your engagement photos. It doesn’t have to be modern or luxurious – sometimes, the more offbeat the better!
If you’re super into LOTR, why not find an old stone cottage on Airbnb and make a weekend out of it? Not only do you get vibey photos that feel like you, you’ll also get to do a mini weekend vacay and enjoy a new experience together.
I love a good mountain adventure! Even if you’re not down for a long hike, you can take a gondola, grab coffee and explore, and get the most beautiful photos.
If your dogs need to be included in your shoot, then why not take them for a beautiful walk somewhere along the water? Choosing an off-leash location allows them space to roam. We can get photos including your doggos and photos for just the two of you.
I’m a big fan of having a campfire in the woods! Bonus points if you’re down to do a full camping session that includes tenting somewhere beautiful. 😉
One of the most fun engagement photo ideas is to include your favourite activity! Rock climbing, dirt biking, ping pong, or whatever you love turns the photoshoot itself into a fun date. The best part is the photos are always so memorable.
If you don’t feel like planning anything extravagant for your engagement shoot, why not just go someplace lovely to watch the sun go down? Bring your favourite drinks and maybe a snack or picnic, and you’re all set!
These always end up being my favourite types of photoshoots! If you’re not a pro surfer, don’t stress – we can still take fun photos on the beach, in the water, and just generally having a great time at a gorgeous beach!
