If you’ve ever heard the term “golden hour” (or the song), you might think of a sunset. But golden hour is actually the hour(ish) before the sun begins to dip below the horizon. It’s when most photographers love to shoot to get those warm, golden rays and sunny California vibes.
I met Sara + Sheridan for the first time at Luskville Falls in Gatineau Park. We arrived just in time for golden hour and it was so gorgeous! They brought their sweet pup Ajax and we just had a super relaxed, chill time walking along the road so he could explore and sniff. This unfortunately wasn’t under happy circumstances. Ajax didn’t have much time left and they wanted to go out for one last adventure and take some photos with him. It’s a bittersweet thing to capture beautiful memories when you know that they’re going to be hard to look at later – but it’s so worth it to have the keepsakes.
Sara is an insanely talented photographer and Sheridan is a DJ. Getting to work with them both was such a joy because they not only understood the creative aspects, but because they knew why we were all there and what was important. Ajax was the star of the show, and he was such a good boi.
I always encourage you to bring your pets to your shoot – but it’s also an amazing idea to plan a shoot around them. If you aren’t quite sure how to incorporate them, reach out or ask your photographer so you can make sure they’re included somehow!
I acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional and unceded territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation, whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial.
